ELCC Standard Element 6.2: Candidates understand and can act to influence local, district, state, and national decisions affecting student learning in a school environment.

Upon observing a student attempting to take medication sent by his mother in the school hallway, I immediately intervened and engaged in a conversation with the student. Emphasizing the importance of adhering to proper protocols for medication administration within the school, I explained the potential risks associated with self-administration. Following the discussion, I promptly contacted the student's mother to inform her of the situation. Collaboratively, we ensured that the correct medical forms were promptly filled out and submitted, facilitating a streamlined and compliant process for administering the necessary medication in accordance with school policies. This proactive approach not only addressed the immediate concern but also fostered effective communication with the parent to establish a framework for ongoing health management at the school.

- This incident aligns with ELCC Standard Element 6.2 as it reflects my proactive understanding and action to influence local decisions affecting student well-being in the school environment. By intervening in the incident and subsequently contacting the student's mother, I demonstrated a commitment to ensuring the proper administration of medication, aligning with local and school-level protocols. Furthermore, engaging in a conversation about the importance of adhering to established procedures reflects a broader understanding of the implications of decisions at the local level on student learning and safety. By promptly addressing the situation and facilitating the completion of correct medical forms, I contributed to the local decision-making process, advocating for the health and well-being of students within the school community.
